Life sentence for Constable Denise Lowe on 9/9/09
Police Officers make it legal at Offa’s Dyke Centre
Making it legal at Knighton’s Offa’s Dyke Centre on Wednesday the 9th of the 9th 2009 were Police Sergeant Wayne Brooks and Police Constable Denise Lowe.
Wayne and Denise were walking the 177 mile Offa’s Dyke Path and stopped off for a day in Knighton to have a rest and get married. And yes they did plan the trip around the date. “I thought if we went for the 9/9/09 I might be able to remember the anniversary” joked Sgt. Brooks. Officiating at the ceremony was Deputy Superintendent Registrar Edmund Kelcher, assisted by Diane Waters. Enid Davies and Jim Saunders of the Offa’s Dyke Association were invited to assist the police as official witnesses. Also in attendance were Wayne’s colleague PC Alan Young and his wife Anne Marie. The couple spent their first night as man and wife at “Westwood” in Presteigne Road, Knighton, where Bed and Breakfast was provided by Geoff and Pat Sharratt. Then on Thursday morning it was back on with the boots and over the Shropshire hills to Montgomery. The Offa’s Dyke Centre, which is run by the Offa’s Dyke Association, is now the only secular building in Knighton officially licenced for weddings. If you are planning a big day you can contact the Centre on 01547 528 753.Press release by Jim Saunders, who is ODA’s committee member responsible for press and PR.
